NTV, KTN News Back on Air

NTV Kenya and KTN News are back on air after the Communications Authority switched back their transmission signals.

Making the confirmation on Monday NTV Kenya tweeted that NTV's signal was back on air on pay TV carriers Dstv, GoTV and Zuku.

The government switched back TV stations hours after activist Okiya Omtatah filed a lawsuit of contempt of court against Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, ICT CS Joe Mucheru and CA for defying directives to restore the signals.

However, RMS owned Citizen TV, Inooro TV and Radio Citizen remains off and no explanation has been given yet.

Last Thursday, High Court Judge Justice Chacha Mwita suspended the media shutdown, which had entered the seventh day on Monday.

In the suit filed, Omtatah cited all the CA directors including the Chairman of the board directors Ben Ngene Gituku, Sam Iteere (PS ICT), Karanja Kibicho (PS internal Security), Kamau Thugee (PS Treasury) as respondents.

Omtatah maintained that the respondents failed to act within the law, which he noted must be strictly followed in the affairs of the 1st-3rd respondents.

“The respondents must be stopped from ignoring the rule of law which is a key national value and principle of governance,” argues Omtatah.

The government switched off the TV stations signals for airing the ‘swearing-in’ of NASA leader Raila Odinga on January 30.

CS Matiang'i had insisted that investigations had to be completed after reports alleged there was a planned a massacre during the inauguration and he further claimed that some media houses were aware.
