Khalwale Attacks Canada Over Miguna Miguna's Detention

Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale on Monday attacked Canada over the arrest and detention of self-declared NRM general Miguna Miguna.

Khalwale made reference to Miguna's dual citizenship (Kenyan/Canadian) challenging the country for failing to jump to his defense.

"My understanding is that our brother, @MigunaMiguna holds a dual Kenya/Canadian citizenship.

"Even if they cared less about us Kenyans, at least the western world should've pressurised for the immediate release of a Canadian. Hypocrites!," he wrote on his official Twitter page.

Inspector General of Police, Joseph Boinnet, was also ordered by the High Court to present himself in person on Tuesday at 9 am after he failed to present Miguna Miguna within the stipulated time frame.

High Court's Justice Luka Kimaru summoned the IG and Directorate of Criminal Investigations boss, George Kinoti, to show cause why they should not be cited for contempt for failing to comply with orders issued last Friday that directed them to release Miguna.

Justice Kimaru issued the order on Monday and maintained that the IG and DCI boss should avail themselves to explain why they defied the order to release Miguna.

"This court orders the Inspector General and Director of Criminal Investigations to appear and bring the applicant before me personally so that he can be dealt with in accordance with the law," Kimaru stated.

Mr Miguna was arrested last Friday, and on the same day, High Court Judge James Wakiaga granted him a Sh50,000 bond but the police failed to release him.

Police in Uplands Police Station, Kiambu County, where Miguna was alleged to have been detained erected a roadblock at the entrance of the station.
