CJ Maraga Asked to Address Miguna Miguna's Case

Professor of Law, Makau Mutua, on Tuesday called upon Chief Justice David Maraga to address the case against Lawyer Miguna Miguna, who was earlier charged at Kajiado courts.

Prof Mutua noted that the President of the Supreme Court must address the matter since the Government is wrongfully persecuting Miguna who he claimed is innocent.

"Miguna Miguna is completely innocent. He’s not broken a single Kenyan law. The State must stop persecuting him. CJ Maraga needs to speak up," he stated through his Twitter account.

His statement comes moments after Miguna appeared before court facing three charges related to the controversial swearing-in of NASA leader Raila Odinga.

Miguna was charged with "administration of an oath to Raila Amollo Odinga and purporting to bind Raila to commit a capital offense of treason".

He was also charged with engaging in an organised criminal activity, contrary to the provisions of the prevention of organised crime act of 2010.

Nonetheless, he refused to take plea and instead asked to be presented before Justice Luka Kimaru at Milimani Law Courts

At Milimani Courts, Judge Kimaru ordered police to free Miguna adding that he will not leave the courthouse until the lawyer is set free.

Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi also came to the defense of his fellow lawyer faulting the Director of Public Prosecutions for charging the latter.

"In my view, the Director of Public Prosecution shouldn't have charged Miguna Miguna at all," Ahmednasir noted in a post on his Twitter.
