Citizen TV Back on Air

Royal Media Services' Citizen TV and Inooro TV  was switched back on air on Thursday afternoon.

This is after the Communication Authority restored their transmission signals 10 days after the screens went dark.

Confirming this move, Citizen TV Kenya tweeted: "CITIZEN TV is now BACK ON AIR! Tune in to your favorite station for normal viewing and catch up with the ongoing Cabinet Secretaries (CSs) vetting."

The RMS-owned stations are the final ones to be switched on as the CA had brought NTV Kenya and KTN News back on air on Monday.

The two stations were back on air the same day activist Okiya Omtatah had filed a lawsuit seeking the arrest of Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i, Information Communication and Technology (ICT) counterpart Joe Mucheru and the Communications Authority (CA) board for contempt of court.

The Government authorities had failed to comply with a High Court order to immediately restore all TV transmissions last week Thursday, pending hearing of a suit filed by Mr Omtatah.

The Government shut down the media stations on January 30th for airing the swearing-in of National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga.

The Interior CS indicated that the stations were bent on inciting violence by airing the political event.

“Accordingly, the Government took a decision to shut down the concerned media houses, until further notice, as it launches a full investigation into the serious breach of security,” Matiang'i stated.

Meanwhile, the Senate Information committee on Thursday summoned CS Joe Mucheru to a meeting next Tuesday to discuss the shutdown of the TV stations.
