Jubilee Leaders Demand for Ngilu's Arrest

Jubilee leaders in Kiambu County on Saturday called for Inspector General (IG) Joseph Boinnet to arrest Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu for propelling ethnicity.

Kiambu deputy Governor James Nyoro, Limuru MP Peter Mwathi, and Limuru Central MCA Joseph Kahenya asked the IG to crack down on the NARC Governor for allegedly inciting youth to burn lorries transporting charcoal in the county.

Nyoro stated that they would deal with the matter by reporting it to the Council of Governors.

“We want the governors to know we need each other, our people conduct business from different counties,” he conveyed.

While Limuru MP disclosed that: “There is evidence and witnesses including the lorry crew narrating how the incident happened,”

Likewise, transporters in Limuru held protests lighting bonfires along Nairobi Nakuru highway demanding the arrest of the Kitui governor.

They blocked the road with logs protesting an incident on Wednesday where youth set ablaze a lorry ferrying charcoal in Kanyonyo area in Kitui

The driver of the truck, Joseph Waweru told reporters that they had bought charcoal in Tana River and were transporting it to Nairobi.

Earlier on Friday, Governor Ngilu affirmed that she would not allow charcoal trade in her county as it was destroying the environment.

"We cannot sit and watch while rogue people continue ruining our environment. We must put an end to charcoal burning and sand harvesting in Kitui county," she said.
