Linus Kaikai Comments on Joining Citizen TV

General Manager at the Nation Media Group (NMG), Mr Linus Kaikai, has denied claims that he is planning to leave NTV and join Royal Media Services that owns Citizen TV.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, the media boss stated that he was not aware of any job offers made to him to join the rival TV station as the Chief Operations Officer.

On Tuesday, Business Today reported that Mr Kaikai was set to take over Farida Karoney's job after she was nominated for the Lands docket by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The report further alleged that Kaikai's supposed move was propelled by the recent media shutdown that saw he and two others seek protection from the courts.

"I am not aware of any such thing. I'm not leaving NTV. I have no further comment," Kaikai told Kenyans.co.ke on phone.

Reports from within both newsrooms conveyed to Kenyans.co.ke that there were high speculations that Mr Kaikai was leaving NTV

However, a reliable source at RMS confirmed that Mr Kaikai had indeed received the offer and indications were that he would be taking up the job.

Kaikai, Larry Madowo and Ken Mijungu are said to have defied advice from Editor-in-Chief Tom Mshindi regarding the live transmission of the January 30 Opposition event at Uhuru Park.

Soon after the Communications Authority of Kenya (CAK) shut down the TV station, reports emerged that police officers were stationed outside the Nation building waiting to arrest the three journalists.

Mr Mijungu would later alert his followers that two men are after his life after defrauding him, mentioning that officials from the Kwale county government are also in on the alleged plot.

Following a failure to publish a story touching on the subject of media and the State, Mr Madowo terminated his contract with the Daily Nation

Royal Media Services is yet to announce a replacement for the CS nominee as Parliament is set to approve the final list of vetted cabinet hopefuls.
