Simon Mbugua Denies Taking Over Polycarp Igathe's Post

Former Kamukunji legislator, Simon Mbugua, has addressed allegations lodged against him by MCAs that he was running the show at City Hall since Polycarp Igathe resigned as the Deputy Governor.

Mbugua, who is an EALA MP, was alleged to have been insulting, intimidating and threatening county employees and leaders.

However, in a statement seen by Kenyans.co.ke,  Mr Mbugua maintained that he was not meddling in the City's affairs being a close friend of Governor Mike Sonko.

"While I am a great friend to the hardworking Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, I have never in any way meddled in the operations of the county," Mbugua affirmed.

He further noted that the MCAs actions raised eyebrows since they did not want to be questioned in their duties.

Mbugua added: "It is only when people have something to hide that they question any scrutiny or concerns by well-meaning members of the community like myself."

He further urged the elected leaders in the city to serve the public diligently and stop deviating from what matters which is development of the county.

"I thank Governor Sonko for his continued effort to improve service in Nairobi despite the many challenges he is facing. I wish to remind the MCAs that fighting well-meaning leaders is not the reason Nairobians elected them," he advised.

Waithaka MCA, Anthony Kiragu, had accused Mbugua of attending Executive Committee meetings, county workshops and being seen frequently in City Hall corridors further remarking that the former Kamukunji MP was the reason the county lacks a deputy governor.

“We can conclude it’s because of Mbugua that this county does not have a deputy governor,” Kiragu stated.

Adding his voice to the matter, Minority chief whip Peter Imwatok also claimed that the former MP had introduced himself as Governor Sonko's assistant during a workshop in Kiambu.

Muriithi Warutere, MCA of Roysambu ward also noted: “We know power is sometimes delegated, but I know the Governor has not delegated any duty to one Simon Mbugua. Mbugua is feared more than the Governor. But we want to state he is not bigger than this assembly. We can’t work through intimidation.”
