Governor Mike Sonko Replaces Polycarp Igathe

Nairobi County Governor, Mike Sonko, has replaced former Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe.

In a statement seen by Kenyans.co.ke, Governor Sonko appointed  John Gakuo as the co-chair of Nairobi Regeneration Committee whose main task is to regain the City's lost glory.

The letter by County Secretary, Leboo Ole Morintat, clarified that Mr Gakuo would replace the immediate Deputy Governor.

"H.E Governor Mike Sonko has appointed Mr John Gakuo as Co-chair of Nairobi Regeneration committee whose main task is to regain Nairobi lost glory. He will replace immediate Deputy Governor Mr Polycarp Igathe," part of the statement read.

Mr Gakuo, who is a former Nairobi Town Clerk, served as the County Environment Executive Officer of Water and Environment during former Governor Evans Kidero's tenure.

His appointment comes a month after the former Deputy Governor resigned.

Through a statement, Igathe noted that he had failed to earn the trust of the Governor to enable him to drive the management of the county.

"Dear Nairobians, it is with a heavy heart that I resign my seat as elected Deputy Governor of Nairobi City County effective 1 pm on 31st Jan 2018. I regret I have failed to earn the trust of the Governor.

"Without fear, favor or ill will I step down to avoid abusing or betraying my oath of office to Kenyans, Nairobians and my family. Thank you for the encouraging support given to me so far," he stated.

Mr Igathe also thanked the Governor for the opportunity while expressing a clear conscience and no hard feelings towards Sonko.
