James Orengo Comments on Refusing to Represent Alfred Keter in Court

Siaya Senator James Orengo has denied claims that he refused to represent Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter in court due to his links with NASA.

The Senator stated that he stands for defending human rights and has no friend or enemies when it comes to legal matters.

"In defending human rights and liberty I have no friend or foe but to do justice," wrote Orengo on his official Twitter account.

There were reports that Orengo's office had declined to offer Keter legal assistance and that he was referred to Senators Kipchumba Murkomen and Senator Kithure Kindiki who are also lawyers.

Keter was on Monday arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts alongside Arthur Sakwa and Madat Chatur, to answer to 11 counts of forgery and conspiracy to defraud.

"On February 16, 2018, at the Central Bank of Kenya in Nairobi, within Nairobi County, jointly with others, not before the court conspired with an intent to defraud CBK by means of presenting forged Treasury Bills valued at Sh286 Million," the charge sheet outlined on the first count.

The document further accused the three of having colluded with other individuals unknown to the court in making the forged document.

Appearing before Nairobi Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi, the three pleaded not guilty to the 11 criminal counts.

They were released on a cash bail of Sh2 Million each and ordered to report to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations once a week.

Keter and the Desai Directors were arrested on Friday, February 16 and spent the weekend at Muthaiga Police Station.
