I Fear Losing my Job Over Miguna Miguna's Saga - Boinnet Tells Court

Inspector General of Police, Joseph Boinnet, and Director of Criminal Investigations, George Kinoti, have, in new court documents, stated that they fear being removed from office if the High Court does not suspend its decision in lawyer Miguna Miguna's case.

Through court papers filed on Monday, the two stated that they risk losing the jobs if the court upholds the decision to revoke the lawyer's deportation.

"The applicants being state officers currently occupying the offices of Inspector-General of Police and the Director of Criminal Investigations respectively, are at a real risk of being removed from office in view of the decision of the High Court, unless the decision is suspended and or stayed pending the lodging, hearing and determination of the intended appeal," the papers read in part

Justice Luka Kimaru had on Thursday last week declared the deportation of Miguna to Canada illegal and ordered the Government to deposit his passport with the court within seven days.

He further noted that at the time of Miguna's deportation, Boinnet and Kinoti were in contempt of court orders.

This is after the duo twice failed to appear before the court despite orders to do so personally and produce the self-styled National Resistance Movement (NRM) General, Miguna.

Kimaru stated that police should have taken the vocal lawyer to court instead of seizing his passport and deporting him.

The Government immediately vowed to lodge an appeal against Justice Kimaru's decision.

Interior Permanent Secretary, Karanja Kibicho, stated that the ruling was not in the best interests of the country.

Miguna himself has since assured his supporters that he would return to the country.

In a tweet sent out on Monday, he stated: "My return date will be announced soon. It's going to be the mother of all liberation wars."
