Musalia Mudavadi Explains his Statement Calling Raila a Betrayer

National Super Alliance (NASA) co-principal Musalia Mudavadi on Wednesday refuted claims that he allegedly accused Raila Odinga of betraying NASA officials during the swearing-in ceremony which took place on January 30.

The Amani National Congress (ANC) leader clarified that during the meeting with Luhyia leaders on Sunday, where he allegedly uttered the words, he only explained the events leading up to the event at Uhuru Park.

During the meeting, he claimed that he also explained why he never showed up at the fete, an action that stirred speculations of divisions within the Opposition.

“I never said Raila betrayed us. I would never use such words," he stated clarifying that he must have been misinterpreted during the closed-door meetings with Luhya elders.

His statement contradicts an earlier one which he allegedly accused Odinga of tricking NASA co-principals into missing the inauguration.

The report by The Star indicated that the NASA leader sneaked into Uhuru Park as the other principals waited for him that morning at a location to discuss on issues related to the swearing-in.

Mudavadi allegedly made this revelation during a meeting with a section of Luhyia MPs and Western elders at Francis Atwoli's home.

Atwoli, who is also the COTU Secretary General, also jumped to Mudavadi's defense stating that he did not attack Raila during the meeting.

The COTU Sec-Gen further noted that the meeting was focused on addressing issues regarding the inauguration fete which were not clear to the Western leaders.

"Mudavadi told us what happened. We agreed that he will remain the Luhya spokesman and the best candidate to back for the Presidency in 2022," Atwoli stated.
