Amani National Congress Threatens to Leave NASA If Musalia Mudavadi Is Not Picked Presidential Candidate

The Amani National Congress (ANC) has issued the National Super Alliance (NASA) an ultimatum that if its party leader Musalia Mudavadi will not be named as the coalition’s Presidential candidate they will go alone.

Leaders from the Western region said Mudavadi must be on the ballot as a presidential candidate.

"We do not want anything except the presidency. Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) should produce one person to be either president or deputy but not to claim all the top seats," said Martin Waliaula, the ANC branch secretary for Bungoma County.

The leaders stated that they were tired of rallying behind other communities during elections and time was ripe for them to lead the country.

“We are tired of supporting other people and communities. It is our time to contest for the top seat," they added.

Adrian Meja, an ANC parliamentary aspirant, rubbished Opposition chief Raila Odinga’s partnership with Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka saying they lost once to President Uhuru Kenyatta and they would lose again.

“Raila-Kalonzo contested against Kenyatta and he defeated them. We cannot present the same pair against him because he will defeat them again. Mudavadi will make a change for the Opposition to win,” he said.

Last week, leaders from the Kamba community also pledged their support for Musyoka stating that he was the most qualified to vie for the presidency.

This comes after leaked information suggested that Odinga would be the coalition’s flag bearer and his running mate would be Musyoka.

Top officials within NASA, however, dismissed the claims and said that the co-principals were in discussions at the coast to decide on the most appropriate team to challenge Kenyatta.
