Kirinyaga OCS Takes IG Joseph Boinnet to Court

A senior Police officer has sued Inspector General Joseph Boinnet for transferring him from Police Headquarters in Nairobi to the Central region.

George Gitonga, who is Kerugoya Officer Commanding Station sued the IG whom he claimed redeployed him without giving him an opportunity to be heard.

In the documents filed at Nyeri Employment Court, Gitonga, through his lawyer Anne Thungu, claimed that he received a memo ordering his redeployment with immediate effect depriving him time to clear his name before assuming the new office.

“The applicant will suffer great prejudice, humiliation and his career progression is likely to be ruined. He will suffer irreparably unless the court intervenes,” Gitonga stated.

In a letter, Kirinyaga Police commander David Kirui had revealed that officers stationed at Kerugoya police station were not happy with their new OCS especially in regards to arrests of suspects.

Kirui highlighted that there is lack of teamwork amongst officers in Kerugoya as their new boss was releasing suspects without due procedures.

Justifying these accusations, the Police commander cited cases where liquor traders who were operating outside the stipulated hours were released mysteriously.

In his defense, Gitonga noted that the suspects were set free on cash bails.

He claimed that before his transfer, no investigations were done and as such, he is being fixed at the baseless and untrue allegations.
