1 Thing Government Wants Every Kenyan in Diaspora to do

The Government on Thursday advised every Kenyan living in diaspota to register their details at the nearest Kenyan embassies or High Commission.

While making the announcement, Foreign Affairs CS Monica Juma noted that this move will enable the Government account for every Kenyan citizen living abroad.

"We encourage all Kenyan nationals living abroad to register with nearest Kenyan Embassy or High Commission or through the Diaspora and Consular Directorate at Ministry of Foreign Affairs on diaspora@mfa.go.ke or +254 204 94992," she stated.

This new directive comes days after the Government facilitated the release of two Kenyan pilots who had been detained in South Sudan after their plane crashed.

The CS reiterated that the lives, property, and safety of every Kenyan abroad is a top government priority.

"We will continue to do everything possible to ensure that every Kenyan anywhere is safe," she stated.

Following the release of the pilots, CS Juma warned Kenyans against traveling to some parts of South Sudan citing insecurity in rebel-held areas which have been affected by conflict in the last six months.

"Kenyan nationals living or traveling to South Sudan to move away from and avoid traveling to areas where armed conflicts and inter-ethnic violence have occurred within the last six months," the CS noted.

The two pilots were captured by rebels allied to former Vice President Riek Machar after their plane developed technical problems and landed, killing a South Sudan national and several heads of cattle.
