Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko Reshuffles Cabinet Barely 3 Months After Appointment

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has undertaken a major reshuffle of his cabinet barely three months after the county executives were sworn in.

Only four members of his original team; Hitan Majevdia (Health), Allan Igambi (Tourism), Janet Ouko (Education, Youth, Gender and Sports) and Mohammed Dagane (Roads, Infrastructure and Transport) have retained their positions.

Danvas Makori, formerly in charge of Agriculture, Livestock Development and Fisheries, has taken over the Finance docket which was headed by Veska Kangongo.

Kangongo will now be the County Executive Committee (CEC) member in charge of Devolution.

She replaces Larry Wambua who will run the Environment docket.

Emmah Mukuhi, the former Environment Executive, has been moved to the Information Communication Technology (ICT) docket, replacing Charles Kerich.

Kerich, a former Chief Editor of The Star, will now be the Lands Executive Member.

Peter Njuguna, formerly in charge of  lands, has been moved to the Agriculture, Livestock Development and Fisheries docket.

A circular from Sonko's office also disclosed that the nomination of Peter Kariuki as County Secretary had been put on hold to allow for further consultations.

Deputy County Director of Communication, Elkana Jacob, stated: "The Governor is after effective service delivery. People should not read too much in this, it is purely to make Nairobi County more productive."

The sweeping changes come almost a month after Sonko's former Deputy, Polycarp Igathe's resignation took effect.
