Uhuru Calls for Introduction of Golf to Public Schools

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday called for the introduction of golf to all public schools.

Speaking at State House while presenting Kenya's flag to the national boys and girls golf team, Kenyatta urged the Ministries of Sports and Heritage, Education and Interior to finalise the development of a curriculum that will see golf introduced to public schools.

The golf team was heading to Morocco to attend the All Africa Junior Golf Challenge in Morocco and the Head of State wished them success.

“As you go abroad with my blessings and my best wishes, express yourselves. Let your talent shine,” stated Kenyatta.

Kenya is among 18 countries expected to compete in the event.

The team of four boys and three girls will be led to Morocco by Junior Golf Foundation chairman Gitonga Kabera and the legendary Rose Naliaka of Naliaka Golf Academy, who is also the coach of the girls’ team.

Golf in the country is considered a sport for the elite and the middle-class and low-class rarely engage in it.

According to renowned golfers, the sport is beneficial in that it helps in relaxation and keeping fit.

Going professional also comes with its benefits as the world's celebrated golfers make huge sums of money in various competitions like The Open Championship, The Masters, the US Open and the USPGA Championship.

At the same time, Kenyatta assured skaters who attended the flag presentation ceremony at State House that they will be provided with space at the Moi International Sports Complex, Kasarani.

The skaters currently practice their skills at the Aga Khan Walk in Nairobi.
