Witnesses on the scene stated that one of the buses was overtaking carelessly when the accident happened.
A witness Bernard Karani explained: “The driver of the bus swerved back carelessly to his lane to avoid a head-on collision with an incoming trailer and in the process, he hit the vehicle belonging to Laikipia County."
He added that the ongoing rains, poor visibility, and careless driving could have contributed to the accident.

Meanwhile, hundreds of motorists were trapped in a 12-hour traffic jam on Mombasa road that was caused by the heavy rains.
The traffic, which began on Saturday evening, saw vehicles stuck in the mud and an accident involving a lorry and a pickup at Lukenya, which claimed one life.
Traffic police from Machakos and Athi River police divisions intervened in an effort to clear the gridlock.
Impatient motorists had started to overlap and stalled lorries parked along the road.
