Laikipia County Aspirants Reject Mary Kihika's Nomination to Uhuru's 2017 Campaign Team

Jubilee Party aspirants from Laikipia County have sharply contested President Uhuru Kenyatta's decision to appoint Nakuru assembly Speaker Susan Kihika to his 2017 campaign team.

The leaders seeking to vie for various positions accused the President of sidelining the County maintaining that they were uncomfortable with the Speaker who hails from Nakuru County as their region's coordinator.

Speaking during a meeting in Nanyuki town, the leaders complained that despite overwhelmingly supporting Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto in 2013, they had been left out of the campaign team.

"We want to make it very clear that we are not happy as a county. We support President Kenyatta and his deputy Ruto and we voted for them overwhelmingly in 2013, but we were left out of the national presidential campaign team," they stated.

The aspirants demanded that the Party must nominate representatives from the county, adding that the region had the capacity to provide Jubilee with more than 300,000 votes.

They further called on the team tasked with spearheading President Kenyatta's re-election bid to be immediately reconstituted maintaining that they would never recognise Ms Kihika as their representative.

"We want the JP team to go back to the drawing board and appoint a representative from Laikipia who will be communicating the party's affairs to us. We have declared that we will not recognise Kihika or even take instructions regarding the party from her," they declared.

Since the party was launched in September, wrangled have been emerging in various regions as leaders continue to jostle for positions.

These infightings have forced Kenyatta and Ruto to change the date for unveiling of the Jubilee interim officials.

Last weekend, Ruto indicated that all Jubilee leaders and aspirants would meet this week and elect interim officials in all 47 counties.
