3 Gangsters Shot Dead in Botched Kidnapping

Three suspected gangsters were on Saturday night gunned down during a failed kidnapping in Murang'a Town.

Confirming the incident, Murang'a DCIO Japheth Maingi stated that three other gangsters managed to escape during the confrontation.

He told reporters that the suspects had kidnapped a lawyer at 8:30 pm near his home and fled using the Murang'a-Sagana road not knowing that police were on to them.

"They (the suspects) had warned the advocate that they would pay him a visit and this prompted us to keep tracing their numbers. We had discovered they were in town and kept an eye on the advocate.

"Just at Mathioya River, the gangsters stopped their cars and started changing their cars and number plates when we intercepted them and ordered them to surrender," the DCIO told the Nation.

It was at this point that a shootout ensued with the criminals opening fire and the officers retaliating.

The three suspects were killed at 9:30 pm with three others escaping on foot.

The DCIO added that they were able to rescue the lawyer while recovering an AK47, a toy pistol and the two motor vehicles the gangsters were using.

Maingi disclosed that this was not the first time the lawyer had been kidnapped stating that he was helping with investigations.

"He was kidnapped sometime last year and he seems to have issues with one person who has been sending unknown people to him with an aim of hurting him.

“There seems to be more than meet the eye and we shall leave no stone unturned to establish the truth," he noted.
