Kenyan Security Guard Steals Sh130 Million in Dubai

Police in Dubai are looking for a Kenyan security guard who stole Sh130 Million.

According to reports, the guard stole the money from a vehicle that was transporting it to an ATM at a shopping mall.

The incident occurred at a mall in Deira where the guard was in the company of a colleague who he distracted before running away with the cash.

“The suspect and his workmate were near the ATM in the mall when the suspect distracted the second guard.

"The suspect told the second guard that he is going to the bathroom and took the bag containing the money and escaped,” a security official was quoted by Gulf News.

Police stated that the Saturday incident is a rare occurrence in the area and the suspect's colleague has denied having any knowledge of the plan.

It is alleged that the accused is in his 20s and joined the security company recently.

“The suspect, in his 20s, recently joined the company. We alerted all the ports and are still trying to arrest him,” the official affirmed.

Recently, Dubai Police introduced a special money transfer bag, which has a special mechanism to prevent crimes against money-transfer companies.

The bags are capable of pouring ink on money, producing heavy smoke to ward-off potential thieves, setting off a very loud alarm and are linked to a staffer at the financial base.

Other steps that were recommended to ensure the safety of money in transit were; the addition of a third security person when moving the money (all the three must be of different nationalities) and paying salaries of security guards on time.
