Anne Waiguru Narrates Story of Man Behind Her Career Switch

Kirinyaga Governor, Anne Waiguru, is one of the three women county bosses whose rise to the top has witnessed both successes and controversies.

Recently, the Governor divulged details of her personal life including the man behind her shift in careers.

Speaking during her True Love Magazine interview, Waiguru revealed that when she was in high school, she wanted to become a doctor, a kidney specialist to be specific.

According to Waiguru, her father talked her into the prospects of becoming a medic.

"I agreed with him since he had been ailing, his kidneys were failing, I thought it would be my opportunity to help him if I could be a doctor, " she exclaimed.

However, that did not happen as her father died before she sat for her final examinations.

"I don't know how I made it to campus because I wasn't sure what life was about anymore. We never lacked anything material because my mom worked very hard to provide for us, but it was an emotional and psychological blow," she disclosed.

She, further, mentioned that upon joining the University of Nairobi, she lost interest in the medicine path and realised that she really wanted to pursue economics.

Later, she joined Transparency International as an intern and research assistant, before working for the Kenya Leadership Institute in 2002.

Waiguru also noted that it was during her time in the Treasury that she received a recognition from Business Daily as one of Kenya's Top 40 Under 40 Women.

When asked what she thinks of the people who hate on her, the former Devolution Cabinet Secretary stated: "I have never sat and thought about why people love or don't love you in politics.
It's about what you can or can't do. But the ones who love me, I think its because I survived, I work hard and they can see what I have done. When you are in politics you have both sides. The
ones who like you and pray for you."
