Part of Narok-Mai Mahiu Highway Sinks After Heavy Rains [PHOTOS]

Motorists on Wednesdays got stranded after a section of Nairobi-Narok road sank at Mai Mahiu

The highway is reported to have sunk following the heavy rains being witnessed in the country.

The road was de-linked at a section near Karima Secondary School causing a traffic snarl-up on either side.

Police have since urged motorists to use alternative routes.

The waters resulted in digging a deep gulley on the stated section of the road completely disrupting movement.

Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued a alert giving motorists alternatives routes to use.

In a statement seen by Kenyans.co.ke, KeNHA noted: "All motorists plying Bomet, Kissi and its environs are advised to use the Nakuru-Kericho-Kaplong Road, while those plying to Nairobi from Narok should use Narok-Nakuru-Nairobi Road."

It further stated: "The Authority has dispatched a team of engineers to the ground to assess the situation and come up with temporary measures to reduce the traffic."

KeNHA assured the public to continuously update them on the status of the restoration works.

Metrological Department of Kenya had predicted that Western, Nyanza, Rift Valley, Northern, Southeastern, Coast, Central, and Nairobi would experience a substantial amount of rainfall.

In Nairobi, flash floods have been experienced after heavy downfalls since on Friday last week
