Floods Hit Nairobi After Heavy Downfall (PHOTOS &VIDEO)

Nairobi county was on Friday hit by flash floods after a heavy downfall which was experienced for the better part of the afternoon.

The Friday rains messed up the city as it caused traffic snarl up at various parts of the Capital.

This situation was even worse for passengers who were forced to queue at bus stations as they waited for vehicles destined for their homes.

Kenyans expressed their anger online as they blamed the rains, which they termed light, for disrupting activities within the city.

"Uhuru Highway is a mess. Cancelled my plans and just went to the CBD to have coffee.

"Whatever makes PSVs hike fare when it pours still puzzles me. Waiyaki Way has been a parking lot. The mess is not about to end soon.

"1hour 10minutes nikingoja (waiting for) Supermetro ya Kikuyu. A little rain and everything is helter skelter in this Nairobi," some of the users stated.

The most affected places were parts of Thika road, Central Business District (CBD), Mombasa road, South B, Westlands and Industrial area.

Here are some other comments:

Early this week, the meteorogical department had warned Kenyans to expect floods with the coming of the rains in most parts of the country.

The floods also reignited the outrage on the poor sewerage system which was exposed after the rainfall.

"You throw rubbish into drains and gutters then get surprised when #NairobiFloods happen has to invest in upgrading sewerage system though," one Twitter user wrote.
