An image shared of the dining area in Mwangaza Mixed Secondary School located in Kariobangi, Nairobi, on Thursday sparked a serious uproar among Kenyans online.
Students at the school take their meals from a used car yard.
The school itself is located on the 3rd floor of a commercial building, Sir Charles Arcade on Outer Ring Road.
When contacted by Kenyans.co.ke, the school explained that students had to eat there to keep them from roaming away, given the school's location in a busy, highly populated area..
"It is not the dining hall. They just take their meals from there because we don't want them roaming in the streets," a representative for the school stated.

Questions had also been raised on whether the school met regulatory standards, fears which they sought to allay.
"The school is under the ministry. We are compliant," the representative stated.
Embakasi West MP George Theuri, who also spoke to Kenyans.co.ke, refused to comment as he was not aware of the school.
Theuri further noted that he could not get involved in matters of a private school.
This was after many people online identified him as the area MP and demanded he take action to create a better environment for the students.
