Kenyan dancehall musician Shaevy, famed for his song Gyal which he featured Slice, has passed away.

According to witness accounts, Shaevy was run over by a matatu after he missed his step.

Confirming the news on his official Twitter account, radio presenter Shaffie Weru broke the news adding that he would provide more information about the incident later.

"RIP to Shaevy of the famous Gyal song ft Slice and produced by Ulopa, fare thee well brother," Shaffie wrote on his Twitter account.

"For those asking what happened to Shaevy, he was run over by a Matatu in Kayole yesterday. Will share more updates in the course of the day," he added.

Shaevy is credited as having taken Kenyan dancehall music international.

His hit song 'Gyal' surprised many after it topped charts in Jamaica and East Africa.

Reports indicate that to make ends meet, he had to make due with being a matatu conductor in buses plying the Kayole route.

In September 2013, he was arrested by the Kayole area chief after he was busted reportedly breaking into a butchery to steal meat.
