Margaret Wanjiru Reveals Secret Deal She Struck With Mike Sonko to Make Her Deputy Governor

Former Starehe MP Bishop Margaret Wanjiru on Tuesday revealed that she struck a deal with Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko to become his deputy.

Speaking during an interview with Viusasa, she stated that she held a gentleman's agreement during the 2017 polls that were to see her take up the position.

However, she divulged that State House operatives chose Polycarp Igathe over her.

"Sonko asked me to get a witness during our agreement but I said no, we were in a private meeting and God was our witness,” expressed Wanjiru.

Wanjiru further criticized the former deputy governor's resignation noting that if she is appointed, she will stay put and confront issues head-on.

She added that her work at the grassroots level delivered a win for Sonko in the 2017 elections making her the perfect fit for deputy governor to unify the metropolitan Nairobi.

Wanjiru's interview comes days after Sonko released a shortlist of people he would consider for the Deputy Governor position, two months after Mr Igathe resigned.

Through a statement on his social media, Sonko asked Nairobians online to help him nominate his deputy from the list of 22 potential suitors.

"Great people of Nairobi, some say politics is about numbers. My FaceBook page has over 1,300,000 fans out of which 925,892 are Nairobians.I believe it is you the great people and God who have the powers of nominating leaders," exclaimed Sonko.

Among the notable names appearing on the list includes President Uhuru Kenyatta's brother Muhoho Jomo Kenyatta, Royal media TV presenter Anne Kiguta, self-declared NRM General Miguna Miguna, Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris and current CAS Ministry of Gender and Youth Rachel Shebesh.
