Uhuru Kenyatta's Words Haunt Him After Cuban Doctors Deal

President Uhuru Kenyatta's words towards NASA leader Raila Odinga have come to haunt him after he signed a deal to outsource services to Cuban doctors.

Uhuru had lashed out at Raila on what he termed as an obsession with foreign intervention telling him off that Kenya needed local solutions.

"Kila siku akienda yule mtu anataka kufurahisha ata mbele afurahishe Mwafrika anataka kufurahisha mzungu (Everyday when (Raila) goes abroad, his priority is to please the white people and not the Africans)," Uhuru tore into Raila.

"Ooh you see, we do not have the capacity, we want foreign judges and foreign investigators to come and do business for us.

"If we do not have the capacity, build the capacity, Mr Odinga. Don't import the capacity. We don't need imported capacity," he stated in an earlier video.

Quoting the incident, Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists' Union (KMPDU) Secretary General Ouma Oluga reminded Uhuru to keep his words instead of hiring Cuban medics.

"As you once said to Raila, if we do not have the capacity let us build the capacity here. Let us not import capacity," Oluga stated.

The sentiments came as part of the raging debate after Kenya indicated plans to outsource 100 doctors to fill gaps in county hospitals.

This deal will see each county receive two doctors, a move that KMPDU opposed claiming that instead, the government should embark on hiring the 3000 unemployed Kenyan graduates.

According to the deal, 50 Kenyan doctors will be sent to Cuba for specialised training as part of the government's effort to ensure the success of the health pillar in the Big Four Agenda.
