Plan to Have DP William Ruto Step Down for Governor Joho in 2022 Presidential Race

Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho's team has revealed that talks are ongoing for Deputy President William Ruto to drop his presidential bid and support him for 2022 Presidency.

In an exclusive interview with Kenyans.co.ke, Mvita Member of Parliament Abdulswamad Nassir maintained that DP Ruto had been engaged on the matter and is aware of their intentions.

Nassir stated: "Our request to him is simple. We are asking Ruto to join us and support Hassan Joho for the presidency."

The Mvita lawmaker further added: "What we are pleading with him (Ruto) is that in the spirit of working together, he must support Joho's quest."

The MP also revealed that some ODM legislators were aware and in support of having the deputy President shelve his ambition to take over the highest office in the land in 2022.

"ODM MPs are aware and support the course. It's about time the leadership tides change and Joho is the best choice for this," Nassir stated.

"Some MPs already spoke to Ruto about it but we will send an official delegation to him on the same," he added.

Addressing the issue of coast ODM MPs who had declared their support for Ruto in 2022, Nassir stated: "ODM MPs endorsing Ruto have done that on their own will, no one will force them to support Joho."

Malindi legislator Aisha Jumwa, who was a strong supporter and close associate of Joho, remarked that Ruto's presidency is unstoppable

Mombasa MCAs are alleged to have started campaigns to ensure Joho's relevance and increase his chances of inching closer to the top seat.

Moses Aran, a nominated MCA stated: "The attention seekers have three years to run their mouths. The year 2022 we will solidly back Joho as he vies for the presidency."
