Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja Explains why Orengo is the Best Minority Leader

Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja on Wednesday evening threw his weight behind James Orengo who was elected as new Minority Leader to replace NASA co-principal Moses Wetangula.

Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV, Sakaja stated that he respects the two leaders but Orengo has a slight edge over his counterpart.

"I have a lot of respect for both senior counsel Orengo and Senator Wetangula.

"We (senators) are looking for a more respectful engagement. There are times Wetangula would be abrasive when it was not necessary.

"There will be a soberer and more amiable environment with Orengo due to how he has conducted himself over the years," remarked Sakaja.

He, however, noted that ODM would have sorted the whole issue internally without creating a mountain out of it.

NASA leader Raila Odinga is set to chair a meeting of opposition senators today (Thursday), intended to reverse the ouster of Wetangula.

The removal of Wetangula has since been seen as a threat to the coalition and some affiliate parties have threatened to operate in isolation.

The parliamentary group meeting is also intended to bar ODM legislators from allegedly considering to remove Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa (Ford Kenya) as Deputy National Assembly Minority Whip.

It is not clear whether Mr Odinga will be joined by his three NASA principals at the meeting.
