Transport along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway was temporarily paralyzed after students from the Rift Valley Institute of Science and Technology went on rampage on Thursday morning.
The students were allegedly protesting the transfer of the institution's principal and blocked the highway at Solio.
Anti-riot police officers, who were dispatched to restore order along the highway, successfully quelled the riots after engaging the students in running battles.

Incidents of unrest have in the past disrupted traffic along Mombasa-Nairobi-Kisumu highway that is critical for transportation of people and goods within the East and Central Africa Region.
Earlier in February, Limuru residents blocked the Nairobi-Nakuru highway demanding the arrest of the Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu following a feud on charcoal trade ban.
The dispute began after Kitui residents torched a lorry ferrying charcoal to Nairobi after Governor Ngilu illegalized the trade.
Although several other counties adopted the ban, Kiambu residents remained adamant that Ngilu's directive was targeted and her utterances equated to ethnic hatred.
Ngilu was summoned and probed by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission although no court proceedings were launched against her.
This saw Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga and Machako's county boss Alfred Mutua issue a joint statement emphasizing on the need to ensure national cohesion and peaceful co-existence.
