Uhuru's First Cousin Wanjiku Muhoho Heads to Court over Revoked Nomination

President Uhuru Kenyatta's first cousin Wanjiku Muhoho has headed to court to appeal the revocation of her nomination to the Nyandarua County Assembly.

This is after Nyahururu Chief Magistrate Judith Wanjala, on February 27, revoked a Gazette notice that had listed her as one of the nominated MCAs.

The other two who also challenged the decision were Margaret Ireri and Joseph Kariuki.

Ms Muhoho quit the Jubilee party in 2017 and vied as an independent candidate.

She opted to vie as an independent candidate after coming a distant third during the Jubilee Party nomination race that was won by Ms Faith Gitau.

The results of the exercise were contested at the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal with the final verdict coming from the High Court which upheld Gitau's win.

27-year-old Wanjiku revealed that while her competitors were busy fighting over the party ticket, she was strategizing how to win votes for herself and her cousin Kenyatta.

It was not the best week for the Kenyatta family as on Monday, activist Okiya Omtatah moved to the High Court to challenge the appointment of nominated Jubilee Senator Beth Mugo and Eldas MP Adan Keynan to the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC).

In his petition, Omtatah stated that Mugo, who is President Kenyatta's cousin, and the Eldas MP had already served their mandatory term of five years.

“No provision in the Constitution allows any PSC commissioners to serve for more than five years and having been in the previous PSC, their nomination and subsequent approval to serve beyond five years was unconstitutional, invalid, null and void,” he stated.
