Rift Valley Leaders Mission to Woo Moses Wetangula as DP William Ruto's Running Mate

A section of leaders from the Rift Valley called on Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula and Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi to work together with Deputy President William Ruto ahead of the 2022 elections.

Speaking on Sunday during the homecoming of Kiptuya Ward MCA Jack Kevolwe, leaders from the Luhya and Kalenjin communities called for the formation of an alliance that will put one of their own in State House come 2022.

Their remarks came despite calls by the DP stating it's still too early to talk about 2022 politics with leaders from his Jubilee side maintaining they would continue rallying support for Ruto’s election as president.

Nandi Governor Stephen Sang stated: “We urge you to agree between yourselves and present us with a suitable candidate so we can decide on how we will complete this race."

He added: "Ruto is already closer let him serve his 10 years then you, Wetangula and Mudavadi, will follow.”

Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei warned that Jubilee will not allow opposition leader Raila Odinga to come in and destroy their home.

The Senator further urged his Senate counterpart Wetangula and ANC leader Mudavadi to ready themselves to support DP Ruto and in return one of them will deputise him.

Chesumei legislator Wilson Sogo remarked: “Let Ruto become President with either Wetangula or Mudavadi as his running mate so we can all benefit.”

However, their sentiments were not shared by former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale who asked the Rift Valley leaders to ask the DP to step aside and support Mudavadi.

“We as Luhyas stood with Moi for 24 years. Ruto is still a young man, Mudavadi is his senior; support him for the presidency and become his deputy. God’s time is the best time,” Khalwale noted.
