Miguna Miguna Arrives at JKIA

Self-declared National Resistance Movement general Miguna Miguna has arrived back into the country.

Miguna was deported to Canada in February after he participated in the swearing in of NASA leader Raila Odinga as the people's president.

Images making rounds on social media show him in a jovial mood having spent more than a month away.

The plane he was aboard, Emirates EK19, touched down at the JKIA tarmac on Monday afternoon.

Hours to his arrival journalists had already flocked awaiting his arrival at the waiting bay.

Supporters were present at the JKIA to receive him. Notably absent from the airport though were opposition leaders.

There was, however, a twist when Miguna was denied entry into the country after refusing to apply for a Kenyan visa.

Miguna's lawyer Cliff Ombeta told journalists that Miguna refused to surrender his Canadian passport on his arrival.

Following his deportation on February 6, 2018, the High Court ruled that the move was illegal and ordered the State to facilitate his safe return to the country.

Miguna, however, maintains that Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i and other senior officials have failed to comply with court orders and issue him with a Kenyan passport.

“I am scheduled to arrive at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Monday, March 26, 2018 at 2:30pm aboard Emirates EK19 via Dubai," he stated.

His lawyers, Siaya Senator James Orengo and LSK official Nelson Havi had earlier issued a statement disclosing that everything was in place to ensure his return was smooth.

“We are happy and satisfied with work that has been done so far in compliance with the court order and we will keep on consulting until Miguna arrives and safely enters in the territory of Kenya,” Orengo noted.
