Miguna Miguna Set For Return to Kenya

Self-styled National Resistance Movement  (NRM) General Miguna Miguna is set to return to Kenya on Monday, almost 2 months after he was deported to Canada for his role in the swearing-in of Raila Odinga as the People's President.

An Emirates flight with Miguna on board is expected to touch down at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) at 2.30pm.

Following his deportation on February 6, 2018, the High Court ruled that the move was illegal and ordered the State to facilitate his safe return to the country.

Miguna, however, maintains that Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i and other senior officials have failed to comply with court orders and issue him with a Kenyan passport.

“I am scheduled to arrive at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Monday, March 26, 2018 at 2:30pm aboard Emirates EK19 via Dubai.

“I wish to underline, however, the Cabinet Secretary for Internal Security and National Coordination, Fred Okengo Matiang’i, the Inspector General of the Kenya Police, Boinnet, and the Director for Immigration, Major General (Rtd) Kihalangwa, have so far refused to obey and comply with the various court orders by Justices Kimaru and Chacha Mwita requiring them individually and collectively to return or reissuance my or a valid Kenyan passport, undertake to and facilitate my return to Kenya as a Kenyan citizen by birth,” Miguna wrote in a statement.

His lawyers, Siaya Senator James Orengo and LSK official Nelson Havi had earlier issued a statement disclosing that everything was in place to ensure his return was smooth.

“We are happy and satisfied with work that has been done so far in compliance with the court order and we will keep on consulting until Miguna arrives and safely enters in the territory of Kenya,” Orengo noted.

He further requested the relevant authorities to ensure Miguna is allowed to be welcomed by his lawyers, family and friends.

Miguna's reception will be in focus following his harsh criticism of the talks between President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA leader Raila Odinga, which he termed 'a betrayal of the struggle'.
