Uhuru's State of The Nation Address Put Off For The First Time

The State of The Nation (SOTN) address President Uhuru Kenyatta was expected to deliver in Parliament on Thursday will not take place as was previously thought.

This will be the first time that the address will not be given in March for the first time since President Kenyatta was elected for his first term in 2013.

State House spokesperson Manoah Esipisu disclosed that an announcement would be made on the new date.

“We have not planned for one but anytime we plan we must notify Kenyans,” he stated.

A section of lamakers allied to the National Super Alliance (NASA) had last week sought direction from opposition leader Raila Odinga on their conduct during Uhuru's address.

Kathiani MP Robert Mbui stated that Raila's newfound partnership with President Kenyatta had left them confused.

“This relationship between Uhuru and Raila has created confusion in the House. We need to have a NASA Parliamentary Group meeting before Uhuru’s address to have a way forward. We want to know whether we work together or apart,” Mbui stated on March 22.

The Wiper legislator went on to assert that the deal had left them in 'an akward position'.

“Our leaders are saying they are united despite what we are seeing. We are in an awkward position...Raila should tell us how he wants NASA members to engage with Jubilee following his unilateral decision to partner with Uhuru," Mbui elucidated.

Some of the issues President Kenyatta was expected to address include the high cost of living, rising public debt, national unity and his big 4 agenda.
