Nyeri Leaders Endorse New Spokesman

A section of Mount Kenya leaders from the Nyeri region endorsed Senator Ephraim Maina as their spokesman.

The leaders remarked that they had picked Maina to lead them in negotiating the county’s development interest in Government.

The leaders maintained that they wanted the Senator to lobby and negotiate for appointments to Government and also push for the interests of the county in development matters.

According to reports by the Sunday Standard, Maina's first task will be to lobby Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko to appoint Anne Kagure, who is from the county, as his deputy governor.

During a meeting in Nyeri town, former gubernatorial aspirant Thuo Mathenge stated that Maina was the best-suited leader to champion for the county’s interests given his political experience.

Mathenge stated: “We are requesting Senator Maina to work closely and passionately with local, regional and national leaders for the county to reap maximum benefits from the Government.”

Wambugu Nyamu, who challenged Maina in the last elections stated: “We have been accused of disunity amongst ourselves and this has resulted in underdevelopment and lack of employment opportunities for our people and it is time we came together and pushed for our interests from a common point.”

The leaders further asked Maina to ensure the county's image was portrayed and represented positively nationally.

They further asked Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga to exercise caution while appointing his deputy, urging him to look for a person who had leadership qualities and the county's interests at heart.

“We won’t put pressure on who to pick as it is your prerogative, but you must look for someone who will be a unifying factor,” Mathenge remarked.
