Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko Exposes Mt Kenya Politicians' Plan to Shortchange DP Ruto in 2022 Presidential Race

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Sunday revealed that Mt Kenya politicians have been holding night meetings to plan how to replace Deputy President William Ruto in the 2022 presidential race.

Speaking during a Sunday service at PCEA Evergreen Church in Runda, Governor Sonko warned the politicians whom he failed to name against plotting to shortchange the DP.

Sonko's sentiments came at a time when there it is still uncertainty on whether the Mount Kenya region will support DP Ruto for the presidency in 2022.

In an opinion piece published back in January,  Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu explained why the DP was not guaranteed support from the Mt Kenya region in the 2022 General Election.

He affirmed that if they felt shortchanged, "they would revisit".

"We will also revisit many issues that will happen during the next four years when we go to make decisions in 2022. (For example, when the President asks MPs to distribute committee leadership positions in Parliament inclusively to ensure we have a good balance and some refuse to heed his call, we note this and will revisit)," Wambugu wrote.

However, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria assured of unwavering support for DP Ruto for the 2022 presidential contest.

“We are not supporting William Ruto because we are being forced to or blackmailed. We are supporting him because he is the right person.

“I want to tell my friend Ngunjiri that this is not the time for political sideshows. We should be focusing on recovering time we lost last year,” he stated.
