Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has explained why Deputy President William Ruto is not guaranteed support from the Mt Kenya region in the 2022 General Election.
In an opinion piece published in one of the local dailies on Wednesday, Wambugu stated that who they backed in 2022 was dependent on what happened between now and then.
He affirmed that if they felt shortchanged, "they would revisit".
"We will also revisit many issues that will happen during the next four years, when we go to make decisions in 2022. (For example when the President asks MPs to distribute committee leadership positions in Parliament inclusively to ensure we have a good balance and some refuse to heed his call, we note this and will revisit)," Wambugu wrote.
The first-term MP affirmed that the most important thing to them was to see President Uhuru Kenyatta's legacy secured.

He further responded to Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria who recently stated that Ngunjiri's opinion was his own and did not represent the official position of Mt Kenya leaders.
Kuria promised that they would back DP Ruto in 2022, as had been agreed when the party was created.
"I feel it is important to point out that 2022 is over four years away, and no one, not even Kuria or myself, is guaranteed re-election in 2022.
For elected legislators like Kuria and me, we would, therefore, be doing this country a great disservice if we started a campaign for 2022 at this point —for anyone, including ourselves," Ngunjiri wrote.
Wambugu, however, conceded that the DP was the frontrunner in the race to take over from President Kenyatta.
