Bishop Margaret Wanjiru's Property to Be Auctioned Over Reckless Driving

Bishop Margaret Wanjiru is set to lose her property following her son's failure to honour a court directive to compensate the Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company.

The former Starehe MP's son, Stephen Kariuki, was ordered to pay Ksh534,000 to the water company after he bumped into one of its cars in 2014.

Gladson Auctioneers Limited were on Wednesday said to be camping at Mr Kariuki's Kiambu residence with carts, ready to cease household items as well as cars owned by the two.

Kariuki, former Mathare MP was driving the car in question when the accident happened in February 2014.

Prudent Loss Assessors were mandated to investigate the incident and reported that the former Mathare legislator was at fault.

The assessors had also been tasked to investigate the ownership details of the vehicles that were involved in the accident.

"Upon receipt of your instructions...we moved to the field and confirmed that the third party vehicle reg. number KAT 019Z, and at the time of the subject accident, was being driven by one Stephen N. Kariuki, according to police records," the assessors report read in part.

Efforts to recover the compensation amount from Mr Kariuki were unfruitful prompting the water company to move back to court for further orders.

At the time, a directive was issued to have Mr Kariuki and Zirock Holdings Limited, a company he co-owns with his mother pay Ksh476,726.

The assets that are now set to be auctioned include four vehicles worth Ksh2 Million, pool tables, sofas and other items.
