Nairobi Chapel Pastor Gowi Odera Offers to Officiate Wedding Ceremonies for Free

Congregants at Nairobi Chapel South were treated to a rare spectacle when Pastor Gowi Odera unceremoniously officiated a wedding during the Sunday service.

Speaking during the service, Pastor Odera offered to officiate free wedding ceremonies for couples who couldn't handle huge budgets associated with weddings.

“Don’t get broke while trying to get married. Come tell me, you want to get married, will do it for free during our church service, the venue is free and the witnesses (congregation) is free,” he stated during the service.

His gesture was received well by Kenyans online, with many commending him for saving young couples from high costs of weddings.

"By the way, who came up with huge amount during wedding affairs. After that many couples struggle to catch up with marriage reality. Kudos Pastor," one user wrote.

Another noted: "That's the way to go Rev @GowiOdera. Marriage ceremonies have become so commercialized that young couples are forced to begin marriage on a shoe-string budget or debt."

Others were eager to take up the pastors offer with one commenting: "Heehee... I am willing to have my wedding here. Connect me with the pastor."

Others however suspected that it was a gimmick that the pastor was using to raise his church's popularity.

"He's just advertising for his church," one user wrote on Twitter.

Another agreed with the sentiments adding: "Absolutely. Only free for a while!"

Through their official twitter, Nairobi Chapel dispelled the doubts stating: "That’s not true! A Sunday service is free and for all - and so will a wedding on a Sunday be."
