Kenya's Trending Topics on April 9, 2018

Kenyans were on Monday engaged in a heated discussion concerning Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi.

On the topic "Musalia Mudavadi", netizens were quick to echo the party leader's statement advocating for national dialogue as opposed to the private discussions being held by politicians at the top.

KRA/ iTax/ KRA iTax

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) was the leading topic searched on the Google search engine for the day with over 5,000 hits.

Among the reasons why Kenyans were curious about the topic is the mass deactivation of personal identification numbers (PIN) belonging to civil servants who had failed to migrate to the digital iTax portal.

The topics also topped Google trends after the taxman and Kenya Ports Authority (KRA) were reported to be in a war of words over the illegal importation of 124 containers.

Timmy Tdat

Kenyan musician Timmy Tdat was one of the trending searches on Google after the musician stripped a female fan while performing on stage over the weekend.

The renowned musician was bashed for the deed on social media as the video of the incident went viral. He later issued an apology.

"I want to take responsibility for what happened because I was in charge and could have controlled everything that happens on stage. I could have taken control of the situation. The crowd charged me, we were overwhelmed. I take full responsibility, I apologize to the girl in the question. I apologize kwa maboy child for not representing them well, and I apologize for kwa mafans,” he stated.

IEBC

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) became a leading search on Google after news broke that CEO Ezra Chiloba had been suspended.

IEBC Communications Manager Andrew Limo, however, denied the reports assuring the public that any such action would be duly communicated by the body.
