ANC Secretary General Barrack Muluka Explains NASA Coalition Binding Agreement

Kenyans.co.ke on Monday spoke to Amani National Congress (ANC) Secretary-General Barrack Muluka who explained the intricate details of the National Super Alliance (NASA) that have kept the coalition from crumbling.

According to Muluka, the coalition agreement struck in 2017 when the Opposition parties came together is binding on the affiliate parties.

The Secretary-General explained that NASA would remain intact as long as three of the affiliate parties stay together.

"According to the agreement signed by the four co-principals, NASA only stands dissolved if three of the affiliate parties opt to leave.

"Since this has not happened and there are no indications that there are parties willing to leave, NASA is still intact. What we acknowledge is that there is some unhappiness among the parties within the coalition but those have not dissolved it," he clarified.

The political analyst went on to elaborate that his party leader, Musalia Mudavadi was still firmly within the coalition.

He further outlined that Mudavadi's issue with his coalition partners was based on the mode of execution for national dialogue.

"National dialogue does not take place in a day. If the 2010 Constitution is anything to go by, that process took 15 years, from 1995 to 2010 when the fruits of dialogue were finally evident.

"Mudavadi only seeks to have all quarters of the demographic to be represented in such talks. What ODM party leader Raila Odinga did with President Uhuru Kenyatta does not qualify to be a national dialogue," he argued.

Muluka went on to explain that for the ANC party, NASA was only a vehicle through which their position was represented, otherwise, it is possible to find another vehicle for the mandate.

"Should the Orange party want to carry out an illegal coup against NASA and opt out, then the remaining three parties will very easily go forward, we could even incorporate other political entities who endear our philosophy," Muluka stated.

Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka had announced the change of name for his political outfit to One Kenya Movement, a move that could possibly see NASA take a hit.

NASA comprises of Wiper Democratic Movement, Orange Democratic Movement, ANC and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula's FORD-Kenya party.
