Dennis Itumbi Addresses Arrest of Chief Who Exposed Poor Working Conditions

Presidential Strategic Communications Unit (PSCU) director Dennis Itumbi has addressed the recent arrest of Kilimani area chief, Patrick Adira barely 24 hours after Citizen TV aired an interview in which the extremely poor condition of his office was exposed.

Through his Facebook page, Itumbi acknowledged that the government official has been working from a very shameful structure as captured in the video.

"That is obvious from everyone who sees the structure on that road," Itumbi expressed regarding the iron sheet structure that was put up in 2001 with the Coat of Arms held together by pieces of cardboard.

However, Itumbi added that it was not a crime for the chief to allow filming of his office with Kenyans having suspected that his arrest was a consequence of the TV interview.

Itumbi opined that the TV interview was actually a positive move as it enhanced transparency by the local administrator whose jurisdiction area borders State House, Nairobi.

"So many of you are asking, why was the chief arrested for granting an interview to Citizen TV. I will try and get the facts," he promised.

He also conquered that is would be unfair if the arrest of the chief was motivated by the interview, as sources close to Citizen TV claimed that Adira received a call a day after the interview aired in which he was given a dressing down by the County Commissioner for insubordination and 'embarrassing' the government.

Itumbi also promised to follow up the matter which saw the chief detained at the Central Police Station, Nairobi since Friday and arraigned in court on Monday.

Nairobi County Commissioner Amos Mariba told the press that Adira was arrested on Friday on charges of fraud and that the case had nothing to do with his appearance on television.

Adira is accused of presenting a fake liquor license to the County Licensing Department on March 6, 2018.
