Mike Sonko Calls for Public Participation by Nairobi Residents

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Wednesday called for residents to take part in public participation forums to enable his administration address issues affecting them, without which he will fail them.

Speaking during the launch of the County Dialogue with Nairobi residents and stakeholders held at Charter Hall, Sonko stated that his government took public feedback seriously.

"It helps us to get direct feedback on areas where Nairobi residents feel we have done well, and areas that need improvement.

"Your views form an important part of our policy. I, therefore, encourage you to play your role in public participation to engage in constructive dialogue with my government. Your opinion is important to us.

"Public participation reminds us to stay in touch with the needs of the Mwananchi, and ensure that our programs reflect their priorities," he conveyed.

He added that the county dialogue was an important way to hear from the stakeholders and urged Nairobians to freely engage with his administration.

"In the last few months, when residents told us to concentrate on fixing our roads and garbage, we put effort there," Sonko explained.

He elucidated that when they were told to address the issue of muggings on the street, they beefed up security and brought the problem to an end.

The Governor stated that his administration was in the process of coming up with a permanent solution to the traffic jam problem.

"Nairobi has worked hard to complete several bus parks that will be operated over the next one week," Sonko stated.

Sonko affirmed that devolution has been a success as it has taken resources down to the grassroots, enabling development in different regions.

He stated that Nairobi would fully participate in the Devolution Conference which will be held in Kakamega County from April 23 to 27.
