Nyeri MCAs Draft Impeachment Motion Against 2 County Executives

Members of the Nyeri County Assembly have drafted an impeachment motion against two County Executive Committee (CEC) members on grounds of improper conduct.

The Members of County Assembly (MCAs) claim that Transport CEC Muthui Kariuki and his Health counterpart Racheal Kamau have performed poorly and have been arrogant in their interactions with the House.

A number of the members begun drafting the motion on Wednesday with the intention of tabling it at the House in the coming week.

Deputy Speaker Samuel Kariuki added his voice to the dissent accusing the Health executive of mismanaging the county hospitals.

Nation reports that the executives have had a strained relationship with the assembly for months as MCAs accused them of inefficiency.

The county executives took up office on October 30 following their appointment by former Governor Wahome Gakuru who died in a road accident.

When Governor Mutahi Kahiga took office, he opted to retain all nine executives together with County Secretary Benjamin Gachichio.

Noting that they had picked the team together with the departed governor, Kahiga stated: "I will work with these people to deliver Dr Gakuru'visionon for the people of Nyeri."

After assuming office, Mr Kahiga urged the officials to execute their varied mandates to achieve the promises his administration had already made to residents.

"We promised to deliver economic growth anchored on transparent and accountability.

"The public expectation in all areas is heightened as such I call upon you to begin work immediately," he charged.
