Uhuru Reveals What Disappointed Him Most During KNH Visit

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday revealed that he visited Kenyatta National Hospital incognito and was not impressed by what he saw.

The Head of State was speaking at State House during a meeting with a group tasked with improving the image of the city by ensuring implementation of his Big Four plan.

“Most of the pressure requires more accident and emergency centres. You have to get these centres working,” he remarked.

KNH has been on the spot in recent months over several negative issues and one case involved a Caesarean Section (CS) that went wrong and a patient lost a portion of her intestines.

Susan Nekesa stated that she delivered twins at the referral hospital on January 25 but a few hours after the surgery, her stomach started swelling.

Nekesa was then taken back to the theatre where doctors discovered the shocking mistake.

“It was discovered that the surgery was not done correctly. A portion of the small intestines, like 50cm, was outside the chamber where it was supposed to be," revealed Nekesa's husband Robert Sitati.

The doctors quickly rectified the situation by removing the portion of the intestines that was affected and left a small opening (stoma) to allow her pass stool through a colostomy bag.

Last week, former Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo was named the new chairman of the hospital's board.

His appointment comes just a month after Health Cabinet Secretary (CS) Sicily Kariuki suspended the hospital's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Lilian Koros.

She was sent on compulsory leave to allow investigations into the blunder that saw neurosurgeons operate on the wrong patient at the hospital.

KNH Director of clinical services Benard Githae was also sent on compulsory leave following the incident that caused public uproar.
