Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu Suspends Water CECM John Mugwe

Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu suspended his County Executive Committee Member for Water John Mugwe following what he termed as overuse of social media platforms.

Governor Waititu argued that Mr Mugwe was more concerned about posting photos on Facebook and WhatsApp than fulfilling his mandate to the people of Kiambu.

Mr Mugwe was sent on the 30-day suspension barely a month after he was transferred from the Transport and Public Works docket.

"I shall have a meeting with you after the expiry of your leave to agree on your performance and set targets," the suspension letter read in part.

Speaking on the suspension, Governor Waititu stated: "If your work is taking pictures and posting them on Facebook and WhatsApp, then we shall not allow that."

Mr Mugwe took to his Facebook timeline to convey his reaction to the suspension as he expressed optimism that he would be back in service after the suspension period had elapsed.

"Yours truly John Mugwe has been requested to proceed on leave for a period of 30 working days effective today.

"It is a shock but I hope that I will continue serving Kiambu people after the 30 days," he posted.

During the 2017 election season, Mr Mugwe shelved his ambition for the Governor's seat to back the former Kabete Member of Parliament's (MP) bid.

The now Kiambu deputy governor James Nyoro, David Kariuki Ngari (commonly referred to as Gakuyo) and Aquiline Njoki also dropped their bids for the governorship to form the United for Kiambu bloc that helped in propelling Waititu's bid and his subsequent win.
