Kipchumba Murkomen Faces Backlash After Remark About Gideon Moi

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has attracted the wrath of a section of Rift Valley leaders after alleging that Gideon Moi was denying him and other leaders the opportunity to meet former President Daniel Moi.

According to Murkomen, the Baringo Senator has been determining those who get to meet his father based on their political affiliation.

"Sisi tumetafuta appointment kwenda kuona Mzee Moi ni ngumu (We have been trying to seek an appointment to meet Mzee Moi, it has been rough).

"Kijana yake anapima wewe aone kaa wewe ni loyal kwake ndiyo akupeleke ama asikupeleka (His son evaluates your political loyalty to determine whether you deserve to meet his father or not)," Murkomen lamented.

The allegations by the Senate Majority Leader that Gideon had barred DP William Ruto's allies from meeting Moi has seen other Rift Valley leaders tell him off.

Moiben Member of Parliament (MP), Silas Tiren, for instance, asked Murkomen to seek blessings from his father before seeking an appointment with Moi.

"Nashangaa. Yeye pia ako na baba yake pastor. Aende aombe babake blessings ndiyo akuje kuona baba ya wengine (Murkomen has a father who is a pastor, let him seek blessings from him before seeking blessings from the former President),"Tiren advised.

The visits to Mzee have come to the fore after NASA leader Raila Odinga visited and held talks at his Kabarak home.

This saw various quotas speculate on the possibility of the meeting having focused on the 2022 succession politics.

On Saturday, the Baringo legislator met Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru at a private function in Nairobi drawing further speculations on possible alignments towards 2022 elections.
