Francis Atwoli Exposes Goverment's Plot to Go After Him

COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli on Wednesday accused the government of having hatched a plot to kick him out as the workers’ and employers’ representatives from the board of trustees of the NSSF.

In a statement, Atwoli stated that the continued political interference will force a joint scheme that will be ruined with the help of the FKE.

"The joint pension scheme will be run without the contributions of politicians. No one can assume that this scheme will render the NSSF Act impotent," the COTU boss stated.

He hinted that the move appeared to target him and Federation of Kenya Employees Executive Director Jacqueline Mugo.

The plan by the government is alleged to be executed through proposed amendments to the NSSF Act, 2013.

The COTU boss maintained that those pushing for his removal want to steal from the workers and then leave adding that it was a witch hunt from those involved in the Hazina Towers case.

Atwoli noted that he had a dozier on the case and those who presided over meetings are fighting back.

“If you read the report from Ernst & Young Forensic Auditors that is in our possession, those who were involved in Hazina Towers and other shoddy projects when COTU and FKE had been removed between 2013 and 2015, should be arrested and arraigned as credible evidence is available," Atwoli stated.

He called for consultations before any changes are made, noting that COTU and FKE are the real owners of the money so they must be involved in any key decisions.
