Gor Mahia Fans Die in Road Accident Along Nairobi-Mombasa Road

Three Gor Mahia fans were on Sunday afternoon killed in a grisly road accident along the Nairobi-Mombasa Road.

The football fans were traveling to Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos to watch their team take on Thika United in a league match.

According to witnesses on the scene, the accident occurred when a Nissan hit the mini-bus that the fans were hanging precariously on.

"There was a Nissan on the opposite end and Gor fans were coming through the highway, some of them were a top of the bus. The Nissan hit the side of the bus and two fell on the road dying on the spot. Right now there are four bodies on the road. There is a traffic- gridlock, and police are already here,” a Robert Maina was quoted by Citizen Digital.

Others who were injured were rushed to Shalom hospital for treatment.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Gor Mahia Ambrose Rachier expressed his remorse adding that the club was ready to support the families of deceased.

"I came to Machakos 45 minutes ago to be informed of the situation. I send my message of condolences to bereaved families of loyal fans who lost their lives. We'll ensure they get a decent burial, we will condole with the family," he told Kenyans.co.ke on the phone.

On his part, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino sent his condolences to the families and friends of the football fans involved in the accident.

"My prayers are with the family, close friends and relatives of @OfficialGMFC fans who have been reportedly involved in a fatal road accident at Mlolongo leading to the death of at least two people and several others nursing ugly injuries. God is in charge," he tweeted on Sunday.
